Former Orlando Pirates Star Returns as Sundowns Name Him on the Bench

Former Orlando Pirates attacker Monnapule Saleng is back in action, with the winger named among the substitutes for Mamelodi Sundowns in a development that will attract attention from South African football supporters.

Saleng’s return is encouraging news for the talented attacker, who has been looking to get back on the pitch and make his mark again. His inclusion on the bench gives him an opportunity to feature for Sundowns, depending on how the match unfolds and the decisions made by the technical team.

The former Pirates star built a reputation as an exciting attacking player during his time with the Buccaneers. His pace, dribbling ability and creativity made him a threat to opposition defences, while his performances earned him recognition among supporters.

His return to the matchday squad at Sundowns represents an opportunity to begin another chapter in his career. Being named among the substitutes does not guarantee playing time, but it puts him in contention to contribute if the coach decides to introduce him during the game.

For Sundowns, having another attacking option available could prove useful as the club continues to compete across different competitions. The team has high expectations every season, and competition for places remains intense, particularly among attacking players.

Saleng will need to take advantage of any opportunity that comes his way. A positive appearance could help him build confidence, regain match sharpness and work towards earning a more regular role in the team.

His return will also be of interest to Orlando Pirates supporters, who remember his contributions during his time with the Soweto giants. His performances in Pirates colours helped establish him as one of the exciting attacking players in South African football.

However, his current focus will be on making the most of his opportunity at Sundowns. The immediate challenge is to regain consistency and demonstrate that he can contribute to the team’s ambitions.

Being included on the bench is a positive step, although his fitness, match readiness and future involvement will become clearer as he gets more opportunities to play.

For now, the news that Saleng is back in the matchday squad provides an encouraging development for the winger and his supporters. After attracting attention during his time at Pirates, he will hope to make a fresh impression at Sundowns.

Fans will be watching closely to see whether the technical team gives him an opportunity to enter the match and showcase the qualities that made him a recognised name in South African football.

If he gets on the pitch, Saleng will have a chance to begin rebuilding his momentum and work towards a more prominent role at his current club.
