On Monday, October 19, the couple exchanged vows at Christian Life Church, surrounded by the Camps Bay community that walked their journey with them from the pavement to the altar.
Jestlene, originally from Bonteheuwel and Blacks, from Khayelitsha, were supported off the streets through the Ignisive Reintegrative Skills Development Programme, a year-long journey toward stable employment run in partnership with the Camps Bay City Improvement District.

‘Thank you for this beautiful day and for all of the people that support us. This day I will never forget,’ Jestlene said. The couple now reside at Culemborg Safe Space 2, a transitional shelter on the Foreshore, as they continue building their future together.
The wedding itself was a community effort. Police warrant officer Christian Lakay walked Jestlene down the aisle, a member of Mable Church styled her, and Sorbet Camps Bay gave her a complimentary pampering session. Blacks was dressed by Ignisive board member Steve Maresch and CBCID chairman Spencer McNally. Primi Camps Bay hosted the reception, with the car and flowers provided by CBCID manager Muneeb Hendricks.

Ignisive founder Theresa Massaglia called it a story of resilience and restoration. ‘Even the most challenging journeys can lead to new beginnings,’ she said.
