2026/27 Ghana Premier League: Week 9 Match Preview – Asante Kotoko vs Medeama

Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC are set to renew their rivalry in a blockbuster Ghana Premier League encounter as the Porcupine Warriors welcome the defending champions to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The highly anticipated showdown promises to be a fascinating contest between two of Ghana’s biggest football forces, with Kotoko desperate to reignite their campaign and Medeama determined to consolidate their position at the summit of the league table.

The Porcupine Warriors head into the encounter seeking an immediate return to winning ways after being held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by FC Ashanti Gold ’04 at the Len Clay Stadium last Sunday.

Kotoko currently occupy eighth position with 12 points after eight matches, having recorded two victories, one draw and two defeats in their last five league outings. They have scored nine goals and conceded an equal number during that period, underlining their need for greater consistency as the campaign gathers momentum.

Despite their recent struggles, the Kumasi-based giants will take considerable encouragement from their performances at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, where all three of their league victories this season have been recorded.

The home advantage could prove crucial against a Medeama side that has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign but has experienced mixed fortunes on the road.

Kotoko will also draw confidence from their recent home record against the Mauve and Yellow. The Porcupine Warriors have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six league meetings with Medeama at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium since the 2020/21 season.

With their passionate supporters expected to provide a formidable atmosphere, Kotoko will be determined to turn home advantage into a statement victory against the defending champions.

Medeama travel to Kumasi with their confidence restored after responding impressively to their first defeat of the season against FC Samartex 1996.

The Tarkwa-based outfit secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aduana FC at the TnA Stadium last weekend, a result that enabled them to maintain their position at the top of the standings.

The Mauve and Yellow have now recorded four victories in their last five league matches, scoring a league-high 14 goals and conceding seven during that impressive run.

With 17 points from eight matches, Medeama have established themselves as early title contenders and will be eager to extend their impressive form while strengthening their grip on the league summit.

However, their away performances present a potential concern ahead of Sunday’s blockbuster encounter. Medeama have managed just one victory, alongside two draws and one defeat, in their four away league matches this season.

A trip to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium will therefore represent a significant examination of their title credentials, particularly against a Kotoko side that traditionally raises its performance levels in front of its home supporters.

The defending champions will need to demonstrate tactical discipline, defensive resilience and attacking efficiency to overcome the Porcupine Warriors and return to Tarkwa with maximum points.

All roads lead to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for what could be one of the defining fixtures of Matchday Nine.
