Independence Day Anniversary: RSG Announces Low Key Celebration
As Nigeria commemorates her 66th Independence Anniversary today, the Rivers State Government has felicitated with the people of Rivers State and Nigerians at home and abroad.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Dagogo S. A. Wokoma, yesterday.
Wokoma, however, said there would be no Independence Day parade in the State in line with the approach adopted by the Federal Government for this year’s national celebration.
“In line with the approach adopted by the Federal Government for this year’s national celebration, the State Government has decided that there will be no Independence Day parade in Rivers State,” Wokoma said.
According to the statement, “The anniversary will instead be observed in a modest and purposeful manner, reflecting the solemnity of the occasion and the shared responsibility of building a stronger Nigeria.”
The State Government therefore urged Rivers people to mark the day with patriotism, reflection and renewed commitment to peace, unity and progress.
