Two arrested in Ntcheu over alleged possession of placenta
Police in Ntcheu have arrested two men after they were allegedly found carrying human tissue believed to be a placenta.
The suspects have been identified as 27-year-old Nelson Kabichi and 39-year-old Fredson Kashaka, who were apprehended at Kaloga Trading Centre on the morning of September 29.
Ntcheu Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Beatrice Mlauzi says the arrests followed a tip-off from a herbalist who had been communicating with the suspects.
Mlauzi says the two had approached the herbalist seeking charms they allegedly intended to use in stealing cattle.
She says the suspects later told the herbalist that they had obtained fresh human tissue and arranged to meet him at Tsangano Turn-off.
The herbalist reported the matter to police, who then worked with him to arrange a meeting with the suspects at Kaloga Trading Centre, where they were arrested and the suspected tissue recovered.
Police say preliminary information indicates that the suspects travelled from Nsanje and that Kabichi allegedly purchased the tissue at Bolodi in Mozambique.
The suspects are expected to be taken to court once police complete processing the case.
Kashaka is from Mchacha Village under Traditional Authority Mlolo, while Kabichi is from Mchacha Village under Traditional Authority Mbenje in Nsanje District.
