Orlando Pirates will be represented across three nations during the upcoming FIFA international break, with eight Buccaneers players set to join their respective national teams.
South Africa, Namibia and Zambia have all named squads in recent days, with the Orlando Pirates contingent expected to report for international duty following Sunday’s Betway Premiership clash against** Marumo Gallants **at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
Gamphani Lungu earns Zambia recall
One of the standout inclusions is new Orlando Pirates signing Gamphani Lungu, whose impressive start to life at the club has earned him a first Zambia call-up in more than two years.
The 27-year-old has made 15 appearances for Chipolopolo and could add to his international tally as Zambia begin their AFCON qualifying campaign.
Zambia face a difficult opening assignment away to Algeria before returning home to host Togo.
Six Orlando Pirates players in Bafana Bafana squad
The largest contingent on international duty is for South Africa, with newly appointed Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane selecting six Orlando Pirates players.
Among them are two potential international debutants: defender Lebone Seema and striker Yanela Mbuthuma.
Seema has carried his impressive form from last season into the new campaign after being named the Premiership Defender of the Season.
The centre-back has been part of a Orlando Pirates defence that has recorded eight clean sheets in 10 matches across all competitions.
Mbuthuma has also been rewarded for his recent form, having scored three goals and provided two assists in his last three appearances.
They will be joined in the Bafana squad by Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi, goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, Kamogelo Sebelebele and Oswin Appollis.
South Africa’s upcoming fixtures include an AFCON qualifier against Guinea, followed by an away clash with Eritrea in Group D.
Deon Hotto earns Namibia call-up
Veteran winger Deon Hotto could also add to his international tally after being included in Namibia coach Collin Benjamin’s 29-man provisional squad.
The Brave Warriors are scheduled to face Congo-Brazzaville and Comoros in their AFCON qualifiers before travelling for a friendly against Russia.
With eight players heading into international camps, Orlando Pirates will have a significant presence across the continent during the FIFA break.
For the Buccaneers, the international selections also provide an opportunity for several players to gain valuable experience on the international stage while representing their respective countries.
