PETER SINKAMBA URGES ECZ TO EXTEND MANDEVU FRESH ELECTION TO MAYORAL AND COUNCILOR POLLS
Green Party President Peter Sinkamba has called on the Electoral Commission Of Zambia-ECZ-to consider extending the planned fresh election in Mandevu constituency beyond the parliamentary contest.
The ECZ has resolved to conduct a fresh parliamentary election in Mandevu constituency following a security breach at the totaling centre on August 13th, 2026.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Sinkamba said the electoral issues that have necessitated a parliamentary election may also have affected the Lusaka mayoral vote, which draws significantly from Mandevu constituency.
Mr. Sinkamba argued that the large number of votes involved could potentially alter the outcome of the mayoral election if a fresh poll is conducted.
The green party leader has therefore urged the ECZ to consider holding fresh mayoral elections alongside the parliamentary by-election to ensure fairness and address all concerns arising from the electoral process.
Mr. Sinkamba has further called for councilors in Mandevu constituency to also be subjected to fresh elections, saying this would promote fair play and ensure a comprehensive resolution to the electoral challenges.
