Which Kruger National Park camps have swimming pools?

With summer approaching, visitors heading to Kruger National Park may be looking for more than just wildlife sightings.

After spending hours in a safari vehicle in the Lowveld heat, a swimming pool can be a welcome way to cool off, particularly for families travelling with children.

SANParks currently lists swimming pools at 11 Kruger camps, although one of those pools, at Punda Maria, is currently unavailable because of renovation work. Skukuza has two pools.

Skukuza stands out from the other main camps because it has two swimming pools.

This can make it particularly attractive to families and visitors planning a longer stay, especially during the hot summer months.

Skukuza is also one of Kruger’s largest and best-equipped camps, with restaurants, shops and other facilities, making it a convenient base for visitors who want to combine game drives with some downtime.

Can day visitors use the Kruger swimming pools?

Generally, the swimming pools at the camps are intended for camp residents.

However, SANParks says there are additional swimming pools available to day visitors at the Skukuza and Letaba Day Visitor Areas.

This means visitors spending the day in Kruger National Park do have options for cooling off, but they should not assume that every camp pool is available to day visitors.

Which Kruger camps are best if you want a pool?

For families, Skukuza is an obvious option because it has two pools and extensive facilities.

Berg-en-Dal is another good choice, with a swimming pool for overnight residents as well as restaurants, a shop and other facilities.

Mopani also has a swimming pool alongside a restaurant, shop, filling station and other facilities.

For visitors exploring the central and northern parts of the park, Letaba, Olifants, Mopani and Shingwedzi provide options for combining game viewing with a swim.

Kruger National Park’s summer months can be hot, with visitors spending much of the day in vehicles while searching for wildlife.

A swimming pool gives visitors a chance to take a break from the heat between game drives. It can be especially useful for families with children, who may not want to spend an entire day in a safari vehicle.

That makes a pool worth considering when choosing accommodation, particularly if you are planning to spend several nights at the same camp.

However, visitors should remember that swimming pools are an extra facility rather than a substitute for following the park’s safety rules. Wildlife is still present around the camps, and visitors should remain within designated areas.
