Suspected Anthrax Outbreak Reported in Muchinga Province

By White Luhanga Muchinga Province has recorded suspected anthrax outbreak following the death of about 40 animals in three districts. The affected districts are Mpika, Lavushimanda and Shiwang’andu, where 11 people are also suspected to have been affected. Senior Communications Officer at the National Disaster Risk Management Division, MATHEWS MUSUKWA, says government has undertaken assessments to establish the extent of the suspected outbreak . In a statement to ZNBC News, Mr. MUSUKWA said Government is also considering measures to contain the situation. Mr. MUSUKWA says the National Disaster Technical Committee of Permanent Secretaries met on 8th September 2026 to review the reports and make recommendations. He has further advised members of the public to avoid contact with blood, tissues and other materials from suspected infected animal. This is according to a statement made available to ZNBC News by National Disaster Risk Management Division Senior Communications Officer MATHEWS MUSUKWA.
