Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi; his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso; and the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, were in Abuja on Monday for the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The meeting, held in Maitama, Federal Capital Territory, was convened ahead of the inauguration of the NDC’s National Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.
It drew candidates, senior political figures, and supporters from across the country, underscoring the party’s preparations for the polls.
Obi and Kwankwaso received a lively welcome from supporters, complete with a remix of Olamide’s hit track Wo, while Dickson and NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, were greeted with cheers.
Obi appeared in his trademark all-black attire with a matching cap, while Kwankwaso wore a flowing white babanriga and his signature red-and-white Kwankwasiyya cap.
The NEC meeting also featured the commissioning of the party’s new national secretariat, the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates at all levels, and the unveiling of its financial statement.
NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, explained that about 80 per cent of the party’s candidates could not afford Expression of Interest forms due to widespread poverty and hardship, prompting the party to issue the forms free of charge.
He added that the financial statement presentation was part of the NDC’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
The day’s activities concluded with a dinner, as the party sought to consolidate its structures and rally supporters ahead of the 2027 elections.
