JOHANNESBURG - Kempton Park communities and civil society groups are working to strengthen local efforts to prevent gender-based violence and protect vulnerable residents.
These stakeholders said ongoing criminal activity in the area is making community-based interventions more urgent.
Lumka Maqubela from Girls2Women Foundation said there is a lot of illegal activities in Kempton Park.
“We are always on the ground 24/7, not only as an NGO, but also with the Kempton Park Residence Forum. We work closely together all the time. The only way we can tackle this is to have patrols.
“But given to the lack of resources, even on our side or trying to assist, it becomes very discouraging. We are willing to go on the ground, patrol 24-7, have the necessary people at every corner. We've got the GBV Brigade where cases are also reported. They go see the families."
