Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah is mourning the death of his sister, Mary Goretti Wamukoya, a retired teacher who died on August 21 at Mater Hospital in Nairobi after a long illness.
Omtatah announced the death in a tribute posted on X, describing his sister as a woman of strength, kindness and wisdom who was devoted to her family.
"May God grant the Musita and Okoiti families strength and comfort during this difficult time," the senator wrote, closing with a line from 2 Timothy that Wamukoya had fought a good fight and kept the faith.
Wamukoya, born in 1958, was the wife of Fanuel Musita of Bungoma County and a daughter of the late Patrick Okoiti and Wilhemina Okoiti.
She is survived by five children, among them David Musita, who is based in Sweden, and Patrick Musita, a doctor at Kitale County Hospital.
Her other children are Inviolata Musita of Kocholya, and Consolata and Albert Musita, both based in Nairobi.
A funeral announcement circulated by the family says her body is lying at Delights Funeral Home in Bungoma.
The cortege will leave the facility for burial on Saturday, September 5, at Kabula in Bungoma County.
Wamukoya is also survived by eleven grandchildren and several siblings, including Regina Kalasinga, Petronilla Okoiti, Valerie Okoiti, Catherine Okoiti, Kizito Okoiti, Bernard Okoiti, Isidore Okoiti, Theresea Okoiti, Lucy Okoiti and Magdalene Amanya.
