The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded the approved logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as the party dismissed allegations that its national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, was working with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine the opposition.
The upload followed a High Court order directing INEC to recognise the logo, allowing the party’s candidates to proceed with preparations for the 2027 elections.
Dickson, in a statement on Monday, thanked the judiciary, INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, and members of the commission for complying with the judgment.
“Our approved logo has now been uploaded, and candidates can print campaign materials and continue their consultations and campaigns with certainty,” he said.
He also commended NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, members of the National Executive Committee, candidates and party members for their commitment during the dispute.
“We are fighters, and we will fight until the end. We have resisted those who sought to use the judiciary against the party, and they have failed,” Dickson said.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, described allegations linking Dickson to the APC as “malicious lies” circulated by political opponents seeking to weaken the NDC.
He said Dickson “is not a front for the ruling APC or anyone else” and had “no secret or open deal whatsoever” with the ruling party.
“Anyone who knows Senator Dickson’s public service record, and is in his right senses, will not associate him with any under-the-table arrangement to sabotage his own party and its Presidential Candidate and running mate, Mr. Peter Obi and Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso,” he said.
Director argued that Dickson’s decision to build an alternative platform, rather than join the APC, demonstrated his political independence.
“Senator Dickson could have taken the easy way out by joining the APC. Instead, he chose the hard, honourable path of building a party with like-minds, a party that will liberate Nigeria from the vice grip of the buccaneers currently in power,” he said.
Dickson, meanwhile, urged candidates to work with the party leadership at all levels when constituting their campaign teams, warning against actions that could undermine its collective interests.
“I call on all candidates to work with the party at all levels in the composition of their campaign teams as they are not independent candidates and AVOID SELF-SABOTAGE,” he said.
He urged members to counter propaganda and misinformation intended to create divisions within the party.
“We must together join hands to fight against propaganda and misinformation from people who seek to undermine the party and our candidates and create division with childish rumours,” Dickson said.
Describing the NDC as a product of “vision, selfless dedication, and commitment to democratic ideals,” he said it would defend Nigerians’ democratic rights and strengthen multi-party democracy.
Director also urged supporters to focus on the elections.
“We urge all our teeming supporters, members and well-wishers to remain steadfast, keep their eyes on the ball, and work assiduously for victory for our Presidential Candidate and his running mate, and indeed all candidates contesting on the platform of the NDC,” he said.
