New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Vice Chairman Henry Nana Boakye has accused the Majority Caucus in Parliament of attempting to divert public attention from questions surrounding the GH¢16.4 million reportedly spent on evacuating Ghanaians from South Africa.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Boakye maintained that the controversy over his service passport was being used to distract from concerns raised by Bosome Freho MP Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh about the evacuation expenditure.
Nana B, as he is popularly known, rejected the Majority’s claim that the MP’s criticism of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stemmed from a disagreement over a request for him to retain his service passport.
Mr Boakye described the passport issue as a diversion, insisting that it had no connection to the questions surrounding the evacuation funds.
Mr Boakye further accused the Foreign Affairs Minister of using the passport controversy to avoid scrutiny over the evacuation expenditure.
“It is ironic that Okudzeto Ablakwa, who consistently attacked various government agencies while in opposition, is now using such an unreasonable excuse to evade accountability,” he added.
The NPP national vice chairman argued that Mr Asafo-Adjei’s concerns on the expenditure were based on information submitted by the Minister himself and should not be dismissed as a personal vendetta.
He called on the Majority Caucus to demand explanations from Mr Ablakwa over what he described as inconsistencies in documents relating to the GH¢16.4 million expenditure.
