
THE Electoral Commission of Zambia will hold a fresh parliamentary election in Mandevu Constituency after an attack destroyed election materials, Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said.
Kasaro said the decision followed a security incident during the aggregation of National Assembly results from the Aug. 13 general elections.
According to a report from the Lusaka District Electoral Officer dated Aug. 18, unknown individuals attacked the totaling center in Mandevu, destroyed result transmission kits and took all documentation.
The attack left the returning officer unable to declare results for the constituency, Kasaro said.
“The Commission received an official report from the Lusaka District Electoral Officer, dated Aug. 18, 2026, indicating that unknown individuals attacked the totaling center in Mandevu Constituency, destroyed the results transmission kits and fled with all the documentation, thereby rendering the returning officer incapable of declaring the results of the National Assembly election,” Kasaro said.
A date for the fresh election will be announced in due course.
