Nandi-Ndaitwah to seek Russian trade and investment in Moscow

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will travel to Moscow next week to pursue investment, expand trade, and promote mineral beneficiation.

Namibia is seeking tangible economic benefits from its longstanding ties with Russia.

The president will participate in the Russia-Africa Summit scheduled for 28 to 29 October under the theme ‘For Peace, Security and Development’.

The summit will bring together African leaders, Russian officials, business executives, and experts to discuss economic cooperation, trade, energy, food security, technology, and industrial development.

“Namibia will seek practical partnerships that can drive job creation, industrialisation, technology transfer and economic diversification while protecting the country’s economic interests, “ reads a statement the Presidency released on Saturday.

Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to attend the plenary session co-chaired by Russian president Vladimir Putin and Burundi president Évariste Ndayishimiye, the current African Union chairperson.

The Russia-Africa economic and humanitarian forum will run alongside the summit, focusing on investment, trade, technology, and other areas of mutual interest.
Namibia and Russia established diplomatic relations on 21 March 1990, when Namibia gained independence.

Their cooperation spans mining, energy, agriculture, education, science, and technology, the statement reads.

The Namibia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission’s 11th session, held in Windhoek in March, explored opportunities to deepen trade and investment.

Nandi-Ndaitwah is scheduled to depart Namibia on Monday and return on Friday.
