Egypt Left in Shock: Pitso Mosimane Abandons Bafana’s AFCON Winning Squad for Friendly

Pitso Set To Shake Things Up: Bafana Bafana Coach Expected To Make Major Changes Against Egypt

Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane is expected to make wholesale changes to his starting line-up when South Africa take on Egypt in an international friendly at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday evening.

The encounter presents Mosimane with another opportunity to assess his squad as he continues shaping the national team ahead of future competitive assignments. With several players having featured prominently in recent matches, the coach is reportedly considering rotating his team against the North African giants.

South Africa come into the fixture with growing confidence after an impressive run in their recent 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. Bafana Bafana secured convincing victories over Guinea and Eritrea, scoring seven goals across the two matches.

The 2-1 victory over Guinea at Orlando Stadium was followed by an emphatic 5-0 triumph against Eritrea in Cairo. Those performances provided Mosimane with valuable information about the depth and quality available to him.

However, the Egypt friendly could look considerably different.

Among the players expected to attract attention are youngsters Shandre Campbell and Puso Dithejane. Both players have been identified as exciting prospects and could receive an opportunity to make a stronger impression on the international stage if selected.

Campbell’s pace and attacking ability have made him one of the players to watch, while Dithejane has also earned attention for his technical qualities and potential.

Mosimane may also use the match to manage the workload of players who have featured heavily during the qualifiers. A number of changes would allow the coach to assess players who have had fewer opportunities while maintaining competition for places within the squad.

Egypt, meanwhile, are expected to provide a significantly different challenge. Playing at the Cairo International Stadium against a strong Egyptian side will test South Africa’s defensive organisation, midfield control and ability to handle pressure away from home.

The match also gives Bafana an opportunity to measure themselves against one of Africa’s most established football nations.

For Mosimane, the result will be important, but the broader objective will be assessing his squad and determining which players can form part of his plans going forward.

With wholesale changes expected, attention will be firmly focused on the starting XI when the teams meet in Cairo. The friendly could provide several Bafana players with a valuable opportunity to stake their claim for regular international involvement.
