Morocco exported more than €1.05 billion worth of textiles and ready-made clothing to European Union countries during the first five months of 2026, ranking eighth among the bloc’s suppliers, according to data from the Istanbul Apparel Exporters’ Association.
Moroccan exports totaled more than 40,000 metric tons during the January-May period, compared with 111,000 tons in 2024 and 114,000 tons in 2025, according to the association, which compiled the figures from Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office.
Morocco’s textile and clothing exports to the EU exceeded €2.5 billion in 2024 and rose to more than €2.79 billion last year.
Despite the increase in export value, Morocco’s share of total EU imports of textiles and clothing declined slightly, from 2.8% in 2024 to 2.7% in 2025. Its share remained at 2.7% during the first five months of 2026, representing a 3.3% increase from the same period a year earlier.
The average price per kilogram of Moroccan textile and clothing exports also increased, reaching €25.90 during the first five months of 2026, up from €24.40 in 2025 and €25.10 the previous year, according to the data.
The figures come as overall EU imports of textiles and clothing declined sharply during the first five months of 2026. Imports fell 11.9% year over year to €38.65 billion.
China remained the EU’s largest supplier, accounting for more than €11 billion in imports, followed by Bangladesh with €7.43 billion and Turkey with €3.4 billion.
Turkey’s exports to the EU fell about 15.8% during the period. The country also lost 2.2 percentage points of its share of the EU textile and clothing market over the past two years, amid a broader shift away from low-cost suppliers.
At the same time, the average price of Turkish textile and clothing imports rose from €20.40 per kilogram in 2025 to €20.80 during the first five months of 2026.
Women’s clothing accounted for the largest share of EU ready-made clothing imports during the January-May period, with imports valued at about €9.5 billion.
Men’s clothing imports fell 14% year over year to €6.2 billion.
