**UAE—**AiMed Solutions, the healthcare technology platform of Burjeel Holdings, has partnered with Proximie to develop AI-powered surgical solutions at Burjeel Medical City in Abu Dhabi, aiming to improve operating room efficiency and clinical decision-making.
The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit 2026.
The agreement establishes a four-stage co-development programme that builds on the ongoing deployment of Proximie’s surgical intelligence platform at the hospital.
Safeer Ahmed, Group Head of Shared Services at Burjeel Holdings, and Dr. Nadine Hachach-Haram, Founder and CEO of Proximie, signed the agreement.
Four-stage AI development programme
The collaboration will combine AiMed Solutions’ expertise in healthcare systems, clinical workflow transformation and AI integration with Proximie’s surgical intelligence technology.
AiMed Solutions will draw on its experience deploying more than two dozen AI applications across clinical and operational settings, working with Proximie and Burjeel’s clinical teams to develop tools tailored to surgical care.
The first stage will provide surgical teams with real-time operating room performance data through shared screens and mobile devices.
The system will track progress, identify time lost during procedures, alert staff when the next step is due and support clinical documentation using AI.
The second stage will introduce agentic AI, workflow monitoring, surgical safety checklists and bed management tools to improve productivity.
The third will extend surgical intelligence to endoscopy, cardiac catheterization laboratories and interventional radiology, while strengthening patient coordination and family communication.
The final stage will focus on surgical instrument tracking and advanced clinical, operational and financial performance indicators.
The programme supports Burjeel’s ONE OR initiative, which encompasses 45 functional requirements across the four development stages.
The existing implementation at Burjeel Medical City covers 10 operating rooms and includes computer vision, electronic medical record connectivity, real-time surgical intelligence and multi-site functionality.
Integrating AI into surgical workflows
Proximie’s platform is deployed in more than 700 operating rooms.
It combines data from ambient sensors, medical devices and electronic medical records to help teams monitor surgical activity, anticipate delays and identify appropriate next steps throughout the perioperative journey.
The new programme will build on these capabilities to address Burjeel’s clinical and operational requirements.
*“By bringing clinical expertise directly into the development process, we want to create intelligent solutions that are practical, scalable and capable of setting new standards for surgical care,” *Ahmed said, emphasizing the importance of developing technology around the needs of clinicians and patients.
Hachach-Haram said the collaboration would help surgical teams understand operating room activity and anticipate what needs to happen next.
She added that Burjeel’s plans for intelligent operating rooms aligned with Proximie’s approach to improving surgical coordination and predictability.
The initiative also supports Burjeel Holdings’ Burjeel 2.0 transformation strategy, which prioritizes faster decision-making, clinical excellence and integrated operations.
The group has expanded its capabilities in robotic and minimally invasive surgery, orthopaedics, cardiovascular interventions, surgical oncology, fetal surgery and multiorgan transplantation.
