Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets continued their preparations for the WAFU-B U17 Championship with two friendly matches against academy sides in Abuja on Saturday.
The five-time world champions recorded a convincing 4-0 victory over Simonben Academy at the FIFA Goal Project pitch inside the Moshood Abiola National Stadium before being held to a goalless draw by Galadima FC later in the day at the same venue.
Against Simonben Academy, the Eaglets dominated the opening half but could only take a slender lead into the interval despite creating several opportunities.
The Kaduna-based academy, however, struggled to contain the Eaglets after the break as the team coached by Eboboritse Uwejamomere stepped up the pressure and scored three more goals to complete a 4-0 victory.
The Eaglets returned to the same venue later in the evening for another test against Galadima FC but found their opponents much harder to break down.
Despite sustained efforts to find a breakthrough, neither side could score as the encounter ended 0-0.
The two matches formed part of the Eaglets’ build-up to the WAFU-B U17 Championship, scheduled to take place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, from 4 to 17 October.
The technical crew is expected to use the remaining preparation period to assess the players and fine-tune the squad ahead of the regional championship.
