The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State has raised objections after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) excluded its endorsed deputy governorship candidate, Aminu Ringim, from the final list of candidates for the 2027 elections.
Ringim’s name was replaced with that of Musa Ya’u Balarabe, despite the party’s insistence that Ringim was its officially submitted running mate to governorship candidate Sabo Muhammad Nakudu.
ADC Deputy State Chairman Nuraddeen Jidawa confirmed the omission in a telephone interview, adding that seven other party candidates across constituencies including Hadejia/Auyo/Kafin Hausa, Kaugama, and Birnin Kudu were also missing from the list.
He described the development as a deliberate attempt to destabilise the party and vowed to pursue legal redress.“As far as the party is concerned, Aminu Ibrahim Ringim remains the name officially submitted to INEC. We don’t consider the released list as final and will continue to reach out to the electoral umpire through legal means,” Jidawa said.
However, INEC’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Jigawa, Adamu Sawaba, maintained that the list published on Saturday was final. He acknowledged receiving complaints but stressed that only the courts could alter the names.
“Any aggrieved candidates or parties can only go to court, as the court is the final determiner of every disagreement,” he stated.
The ADC has urged its members and supporters to remain calm while it challenges the omissions, which it claims violate constitutional and electoral guidelines.
