The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Zamfara State has announced that collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will continue at its offices in the 14 local government areas of the state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr Mahmuda Isah, disclosed this on Wednesday at a stakeholders’ meeting on preparations for the 2027 general elections and PVC collection in Gusau.
Isah said the ward-level collection exercise ended on October 15, 2026, adding that registered voters who are yet to collect their cards should visit INEC LGA offices to do so.
He said PVC collection is free and must be done personally, warning against payment, collection by proxy or any act capable of undermining the process.
The REC disclosed that Zamfara had 1,952,060 registered voters as of the 2023 general elections, while the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise recorded additional 313,115 registrations as of August 2026.
He said the state has 14 LGAs, 147 Registration Areas, 3,529 polling units, 3 senatorial districts, 7 federal constituencies and 24 state constituencies, with an average of 553 voters per polling unit.
Isah said the Commission was working with security agencies to address security challenges in some communities, noting that safety of voters, personnel, materials and facilities remains critical.
He appealed to political parties and their supporters to conduct their activities peacefully and in line with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, 2026 and INEC guidelines.
He also urged traditional and religious leaders to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence, and called on the media and civil society organisations to verify election-related information through official channels to curb misinformation.
The REC reminded stakeholders that the 2027 general elections would hold on January 16, 2027 for presidential and National Assembly elections, and February 6, 2027 for governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.
He said credible elections require collective commitment, adding that INEC would discharge its mandate with independence, impartiality and transparency.
