A heated debate over the transparency of Kenya’s electoral process has taken a new turn after lawyer Ndengwa Njiru came forward to challenge claims that Parliament had amended the law to prohibit the live streaming of election results.
Njiru has strongly dismissed the allegations, insisting that the legal position governing the public transmission of election results remains unchanged. His statement comes amid growing public interest in the electoral process and concerns over the transparency of vote counting ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to the lawyer, those spreading claims that Parliament has amended the Elections Act to prevent the live streaming of election results should immediately stop circulating what he described as false and misleading information.
Njiru specifically pointed to Section 39 of the Elections Act, Cap. 7 of the Laws of Kenya, arguing that the provision has not been amended in any way that prohibits or restricts the live streaming or public transmission of election results.
He further maintained that Parliament has not passed any such amendment and that no law introducing the alleged restrictions is currently in force. “The position of the law remains unchanged,” Njiru stated, reaffirming his position on the matter.
His remarks are likely to attract further attention from political leaders, election observers and members of the public, particularly as discussions about credible elections continue to gain momentum.
The transmission of election results remains an important issue in Kenya, where citizens have repeatedly demanded openness, accountability and confidence in the electoral process.
Njiru’s intervention also highlights the importance of verifying claims about changes to electoral laws before sharing them with the public.
As political activity intensifies ahead of 2027, the debate over election transparency is expected to remain significant, with Kenyans closely watching developments that could affect how results are announced and communicated nationwide.
