Jubilee, Kadu Asili Strike Working Deal as Matiang’i Wins Coast Backing
The Jubilee Party and Kadu Asili have initiated formal talks to establish a strategic working relationship ahead of the 2027 General Election. The partnership follows an endorsement by Kadu Asili leader Mudzo Nzili supporting former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s presidential bid.
The announcement was made during a high-level political meeting in Mombasa on Monday, where Nzili highlighted critical issues affecting the Coast region. Key priorities raised during the discussions included unresolved land ownership disputes, squatter resettlement, mining concessions at Mrima Hill, sustainable management of blue economy resources, and equitable job allocations at the Kenya Ports Authority.
The political alignment coincides with Matiang’i launching a five-day tour across the coastal region, with scheduled stops in Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, Taita Taveta, and Kwale. The outreach effort comes shortly after President William Ruto completed an eight-day tour of the area, signaling heightened campaign activity along the Coast.
Matiang’i welcomed Kadu Asili’s backing, stating that Jubilee is actively seeking broad-based partnerships across the political spectrum rather than operating as an isolated unit.
Regional Expansion and Opposition Coordination
The Jubilee-Kadu Asili engagement forms part of broader efforts among opposition groups to build a unified front ahead of the 2027 polls. Matiang’i confirmed ongoing discussions with other political formations, including recent engagements with People’s Party of Kenya leader Ndindi Nyoro regarding opposition coalition-building.
Kadu Asili, which revived its national party structures under Nzili’s leadership earlier this year, plans to expand its political footprint beyond its traditional coastal base by fielding candidates for various elective seats across the country.
For Jubilee, the framework agreement aligns with its grassroots expansion strategy following its October 2025 endorsement of Matiang’i as its official presidential candidate.
In addition to party alignment, Matiang’i pledged support for the proposed Coast Region Integrated Development Plan (2027–2037) to address historical socioeconomic and infrastructural deficits across the region.
