POSAT marks school’s golden jubilee, launches N1.5bn development fund

The Progressive Old Students’ Association, Tede (POSAT), has unveiled plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Progressive Secondary Grammar School, Tede, Oyo State, with the launch of a N1.5 billion development fund aimed at improving infrastructure and supporting the institution’s long-term growth.

The golden jubilee celebration, scheduled for November 2026, will also feature the school’s first Global Alumni Reunion, bringing together former students from different generations to celebrate its achievements and mobilise support for its future development.

In a statement jointly signed by the Interim National President of POSAT, Dr Funso Folaranmi, and Interim National Secretary, Tajudeen Alabede, the association said the anniversary would commemorate both the 67th anniversary of the establishment of Progressive Modern School, Tede, in 1959 and the golden jubilee of its upgrade to Progressive Secondary Grammar School on November 22, 1976.

According to the association, the celebration will provide an opportunity for alumni, stakeholders and members of the host community to reflect on the institution’s contributions to education and community development over the decades.

The programme of activities includes special thanksgiving services, Community Engagement Day, Homecoming and School Community Day, Global Alumni Reunion Day and a grand finale scheduled for Saturday, November 28, 2026.

The grand finale is expected to attract prominent political, business and civic leaders, alumni and other stakeholders in the education sector.

Highlights will include a scholarly symposium on the theme, “The Future of Community-Based Public Secondary Schools in Nigeria,” the unveiling of the Strategic School Development Initiative and the official launch of the N1.5 billion Development Fund.

The association will also present Legacy Awards to pioneers whose contributions helped lay the foundation for the establishment and development of the school.

POSAT said the anniversary would celebrate the institution’s educational legacy while strengthening alumni participation in efforts to reposition the school for future generations.
