MWANZA: THE Ministry of Health, through its Emergency and Disaster Management Unit, in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI) and CIHEB Tanzania under the Global Health Security Project, is strengthening the country’s emergency and critical care systems through hands-on Ebola preparedness training for health workers.

The initiative focuses on improving readiness at health facilities in responding to infectious disease outbreaks while ensuring the safety of both patients and frontline health workers. The training is being conducted at Buchosa District Council Hospital in Mwanza Region.

Health workers are being equipped with practical skills on how to handle suspected Ebola cases from the first point of contact.

This includes patient reception and triage, initial assessment, safe use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and strict adherence to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) guidelines.

The sessions also focus on early detection of symptoms, timely reporting of suspected cases, safe collection and transport of laboratory samples, and immediate emergency response actions in line with national health protocols.

According to health officials, the training is part of ongoing national efforts to strengthen preparedness against Ebola and other high-risk infectious diseases.

It is also designed to improve coordination and response capacity within the health system in the event of public health emergencies.

The Ministry emphasized that protecting health workers remains a top priority, given their frontline role in managing outbreaks and providing essential care under high-risk conditions.

The exercise is also expected to reduce the risk of infection within health facilities by reinforcing proper procedures and ensuring strict compliance with safety standards during emergency care delivery.

Conducted today, June 25, 2026, the training forms part of a wider national programme aimed at building the capacity of health professionals through practical learning and coordinated supervision.

The programme seeks to enhance Tanzania’s overall health security and ensure faster, more effective responses to disease outbreaks and other public health threats.
