**DAR ES SALAAM: **PEOPLE living with severe obesity will have an opportunity to access specialist consultations, health assessments and weight-loss treatment during a medical camp running from Monday to September 11 at Shifaa Pan African Hospital in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam.
The camp will offer expert guidance on managing excessive weight, including bariatric surgery performed using minimally invasive keyhole techniques designed to shorten recovery time.
Specialist surgeon Dr Kassim Bahsan said the initiative is intended to help people struggling with obesity understand available treatment options and make informed decisions about improving their health.
“If you have been struggling with excessive weight and are looking for a safe and effective way to improve your health, this is an important opportunity to take a meaningful step towards a healthier life,” he said.

A public education forum scheduled for September 4 will explain who qualifies for weight-loss surgery, its benefits and expected outcomes, while former patients will share their recovery experiences.
Head of Surgery Dr Murad Tarmohamed said the camp will also provide individual assessments and guidance on pre-operative requirements for eligible patients.
He said the hospital has so far performed minimally invasive bariatric surgery on more than 20 patients, with some reducing their weight from about 148 kilogrammes to below 100 kilogrammes after treatment.
Dr Tarmohamed stressed that bariatric surgery should not be viewed as a cosmetic procedure, saying it can help patients manage obesity related conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and mobility problems affecting the knees and hips.
