Carrick injects fresh blood as another exciting youngster spotted in Man Utd training

**Michael Carrick needs to do something different to prolong his stay of execution at Man Utd, and another exciting youngster has been spotted in first-team training. **
The biggest news from the training ahead of Chelsea was the return of Kobbie Mainoo, who will undoubtedly be a big boost to Michael Carrick.
Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford remain absent, but Carrick needs to inject some excitement into the state of affairs at Carrington.
Bruno Fernandes’ return to the XI should help, but Carrick has also looked to the academy to inject some fresh blood into the team.
Jariyah Shah in Man Utd training
Carrick has regularly filled the first-team group with academy players to help them visualise the pathway, but there have been some who are further ahead than others.
The likes of Fletcher twins, Jim Thwaites, and, before his exit demand, JJ Gabriel almost always made first-team training, rendering it not newsworthy.
Ahead of the trip to Chelsea, however, Carrick mixed it up, calling U18s midfielder Jariyah Shah to the first-team group.
A central midfielder by trade, Shah has been a regular for the U18s this season, playing eight games and scoring twice, making the starting XI 88% of the time.
His box-crashing skills from deeper areas make him a goal threat, and he can also play further ahead in the No. 10 role as a shadow striker.
He arrived from Doncaster in 2022, and joined the proper U18s setup in 2025, but the rich crop of midfielders at the time saw him get eased into action.
Now, with the likes of Jacob Devaney, Jim Thwaites, and more going out on loan or getting promoted to the U21s, Shah has earned himself a larger role.
Shah has got a good engine in him, which has also seen him play as a right-back at times for the academy, but his future lies in central midfield.
It would be a huge surprise if he receives any first-team minutes against Chelsea, but it is undoubtedly a great moment for the youngster who has been rewarded for his form for the academy side.
Now, Carrick just needs to go a step further and actually give youngsters some first-team minutes and go back to the ethos of Man Utd.
Shah might be away from that point, but the likes of Shea Lacey and Harry Amass have more than merited a chance.
