CNN, MS NOW, Politico Prepare Lawsuit Against Trump Over White House Press Ban

News outlets CNN, MS NOW, and Politico are preparing legal action against the United States government following President Donald Trump’s decision to ban their journalists from White House facilities.

The legal challenge centers on allegations of “viewpoint discrimination,” with news organizations and legal experts arguing that the First Amendment prohibits the administration from selectively excluding journalists based on critical coverage.

“The First Amendment does not permit the government to pick and choose which journalists are allowed to do their jobs,” National Press Club President Mark Schoeff Jr. said, emphasizing that government authorities cannot exclude reporters once White House facilities are opened to the press generally. Legal scholars note that previous court rulings have barred the administration from denying press access on the basis of editorial perspective.

The impending lawsuit follows comments from President Trump in the Oval Office, where he defended the restrictions by stating he is not obligated to allow outlets that publish negative reports into the White House.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz also defended the administration’s position, citing past Supreme Court precedent regarding government information gathering and arguing that the president holds the right to limit facility access to reporters deemed not to be acting in good faith.
