The African Democratic Congress, ADC, Zamfara State chapter, has criticized the All Progressives Congress, APC, over a 7-kilometre solidarity walk held in Gusau to celebrate the appointment of former Governor Abdul’aziz Yari as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for 2027.
In a statement issued in Gusau on Friday and signed by the state chairman, Hon. Kabiru Garba, the ADC described the celebration as “deeply troubling” given the prevailing insecurity in the state.
The APC and its support groups on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, organised the walk to mark President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appointment of Senator Yari to head the party’s campaign council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC, however, said the timing of the celebration was insensitive considering the “devastating consequences of banditry, killings, kidnappings, displacement and destruction of livelihoods” across Zamfara communities.
“At a time when our communities continue to suffer, the APC chose to mobilise people for a political celebration rather than use the occasion to draw national attention to the suffering of the people of Zamfara,” the statement read.
The party asked, “Where is the compassion for the victims? Where is the national outrage for the families that have lost fathers, mothers, sons and daughters? Where is the solidarity with women and children who have been displaced from their communities?”
The ADC challenged the APC to explain what concrete measures the federal government has put in place to address insecurity in the state, what assistance is being provided to displaced persons, and why “political celebrations receive greater attention than the suffering of ordinary citizens.
“We are not against political mobilisation. We are against politics without humanity,” Garba said.
He urged the people of Zamfara to vote based on performance, security, accountability and genuine commitment to their welfare in the 2027 elections, “not empty political promises or celebrations.”
The ADC reaffirmed its commitment to a “Zamfara First agenda” and vowed to continue to speak for victims of insecurity and demand responsible leadership at all levels.
“The people must come first. Zamfara must come first,” the statement concluded.
Efforts to get the reaction of the Zamfara APC were unsuccessful as of press time.
