Three Man Utd players team up with Louis Page for England U19 duty

Manchester United-linked midfielder Louis Page has been called up to the England U19 squad this month, alongside three current players for the Red Devils.

After Louis Page missed a deadline day switch to Manchester United as a fee with Leicester City couldn’t be agreed upon in the dying hours of the window, he has now got the chance to play with some United players.

Page has been named in the England U19 squad for the upcoming games against Ireland, Norway, USA, and Belgium. With him in the squad are three current United players.

• Albert Mills
• Tynan Thompson

Page has played with all three before, but this will come with the four knowing they could be teammates at a club level as well. It could be an opportunity for Mantato, Mills, and Thompson to try to convince Page to join them.

Manchester United should return for Louis Page in January

The failure to get the Page deal wrapped up is one that reflects badly on Ineos, considering there was a difference of £3m or so, and Jason Wilcox didn’t sanction it.

Page is a huge talent, and he will only improve with several elite sides chasing his signature, including Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund. So United shouldn’t be giving up.

Page wouldn’t be an automatic first-team player for United and would be in competition with Jim Thwaites and Tyler Fletcher for his senior opportunities.

Thwaites is in England’s U20 side this month, one level ahead of Page despite his lack of first-team opportunities. This puts into perspective how good United already have it in terms of young talents, who aren’t getting opportunities.

So Page would have his work cut out, although it would still be worth signing such a clearly talented player who would either make it or be sold on for a profit, with his talent clear.

United need to give more youth opportunities in order to be able to sell young talents for as much as Chelsea and City manage to do so. First team exposure is the biggest factor in these fees.
