Police in Mangochi have arrested a 55-year-old man who is expected to appear in court for allegedly defiling his 5-year-old biological daughter.
The suspect, who hails from the area of Traditional Authority Jalasi, was arrested on August 25, 2026 following a report made at Namwera Police Post.
According to Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, Public Relations Officer for Mangochi Police Station, the incident occurred while the child’s mother was away attending a village function within Namwera.
“The mother went to attend an initiation ceremony within the same village, leaving the suspect who is her husband and children including the 5-year-old victim”, Said Daudi.
Upon returning home around 11:00 p.m., the mother found the child unwell.
After noticing signs of possible abuse, she took the child to Namwera Health Centre for medical examination where medical findings indicated that the child had been sexually assaulted.
Following investigations, police arrested the suspect and when questioned, he failed to provide a satisfactory account of the allegations.
The man will appear before court to answer a charge of having sexual intercourse with a female child, contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code.
