Carrick’s Amad decision this season is made after player’s bold promise, ominous for Rashford

Amad has made a bold promise this season that should see Michael Carrick get clarity and provide an ominous sign for Marcus Rashford.
Of all the injury absentees so far this season, Amad’s timing of the injury hurt Man Utd the most, because he was flying in pre-season.
Amad’s injury had a cascading effect, where Bryan Mbeumo had to move to the right, forcing Matheus Cunha down the middle, and giving Marcus Rashford a run on the left.
That template clearly failed miserably, and if change wasn’t already necessary, Amad’s bold promise makes Carrick’s decision for him.
Amad promises a ‘different’ version of himself
Amad was taking a leap to superstar status under Ruben Amorim before the manager was sacked, and he was one of the few players who didn’t benefit from Carrick’s appointment.
It was a difficult last season for him once Carrick became Man Utd manager, but he seemed to have shaken off those problems this season.
He impressed at the World Cup and looked in fine form during pre-season, until an injury wrecked his plans and delayed his start to the season.
He has recently come back into the team, and it’s clear that the team sorely missed his direct dribbling, selfless running, and chance creation in small spaces.
Amad is determined to not just discover his previous levels, but to improve upon them and decide games this season, making a bold promise about the same.
He said: “I want to be the one who decides the matches, and I think we’ll see a different Amad this season.”
He added that he wants to win trophies at the club, and will do everything to make it happen, a prospect that looks remote at best right now. Still, United need more characters like him.
Amad’s promise is ominous for Marcus Rashford
Amad should already have been a starter for United, but this promise speaks of a player at the peak of his powers and determined to drag the team with him.
Carrick rates him highly as well, as he stood by him even during difficult moments last season. He’s looking forward to an improved version of the Ivorian.
He said: “He’s a real team player, he offers so much to the team, the way he contributes and plays. He’s an important player so we’re happy to have him back.”
If Carrick sticks to his word and starts giving Amad more games from the start, then it will be up to Rashford to win back a starting XI place.
Cunha is the most in-form attacker right now, while Mbeumo’s ability to stay among the goals is important. That leaves one attacking spot open, and Amad takes it ahead of Rashford.
It’s not ideal for United to have their £300k/week player sit on the bench, but it’s why Rashford didn’t have a place at United, but the club failed to sell him.
