Shinima scores major victory in US boxing showdown
Namibian professional boxer Charles Shinima strengthened his international credentials after defeating American boxer Samuel Arnold by majority decision at the Champions of Tomorrow boxing event in the United States on Saturday.
Shinima secured the victory over 10 rounds in a bout in which he challenged for the World Boxing Association (WBA) North American Boxing Association (NABA) title.
The victory marks an important moment for the Namibian pugilist, who continues to pursue opportunities on the international boxing circuit as he seeks to raise his profile beyond Namibia’s borders.
Speaking after the fight, Shinima expressed happiness at the outcome, describing a victory in the United States as a significant achievement for an African boxer.
“I am just happy for a victory. It is every African fighter’s dream to win a title in the USA,” he said.
Shinima’s triumph against Arnold adds to his experience on the international stage, where opportunities to compete against American opponents can provide valuable exposure and open doors to further title challenges.
The 10-round contest went to the judges, with Shinima earning a majority decision, meaning two judges scored the fight in his favour while the third scored it a draw.
Shinima is currently not affiliated with any boxing stable in Namibia, leaving him without a local stable as he continues his professional career. His latest victory could provide fresh momentum as he looks to secure further international fights and establish himself among Namibia’s leading professional boxers. [email protected]
