Bafana Bafana Star Relebohile Mofokeng Linked With Potential R280 Million European Move
South African football star Relebohile Mofokeng is reportedly attracting interest from two European clubs following an impressive start to his career in Belgium.
The 21-year-old Bafana Bafana winger has caught the attention of scouts from French club Lille and German side Bayer Leverkusen, who are reportedly monitoring his performances at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
According to Turkish transfer reporter Ekrem Konur, both clubs are keeping a close eye on the talented South African, with potential bids of €15 million (approximately R280 million) expected during the January 2027 transfer window.
Mofokeng’s rapid rise in European football comes just months after his reported €3.5 million move from Orlando Pirates in July 2026.
Mofokeng has wasted little time establishing himself in Belgium, delivering promising performances across competitions since joining Union SG.
The winger has reportedly recorded six goals and two assists in 14 appearances for club and country, highlighting his attacking quality and ability to adapt to European football.
His European journey began with an impressive moment during the Belgian Super Cup on 31 July 2026. Coming off the bench against Club Brugge, Mofokeng converted the decisive penalty during the shootout to help his team secure victory.
He subsequently scored on his Belgian Pro League debut against K.V.C. Westerlo on 8 August before producing another notable performance in a 2-0 victory over Royal Antwerp.
The Bafana Bafana international also found the back of the net in Union SG’s 3-0 UEFA Europa League victory over Viktoria Plzeň on 17 September.
More recently, he registered an assist in a 3-0 Belgian Cup win against KFC Nijlen, further strengthening his case for a regular starting position under coach David Hubert.
Despite the growing transfer speculation, Union SG are in a strong negotiating position.
Mofokeng is reportedly contracted to the Belgian club until 30 June 2030, with an option to extend his deal by another year. His long-term contract could make it difficult for interested clubs to secure his signature without presenting a substantial offer.
Remaining in Belgium for the rest of the season could also benefit the young winger by allowing him to gain more experience, establish himself as a consistent first-team player and continue competing in European competitions.
A strong campaign could further increase his market value and attract even greater interest from Europe’s biggest clubs.
If the reported interest translates into formal offers, the Bafana Bafana star could find himself at the centre of one of South African football’s most talked-about transfer stories.
