Sarki Alhaji Awal Dan Issah leads drive to complete Azhariya School Complex

Chief Sarki Alhaji Awal Dan Issah, son of the Sarkin Hausawa of Ghana, is spearheading efforts to complete a proposed three-storey school complex for Azhariya School in the Ablekuma Central Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.
The initiative seeks to address the growing student population and improve teaching and learning conditions, as pupils currently operate a shift system due to inadequate classroom space.
A sod-cutting ceremony for the project is scheduled for Sunday, October 18, 2026, as the project committee intensifies efforts to mobilise resources for the construction.
Chief Sarki Alhaji Awal Dan Issah, who chairs the project committee and is Chief Executive Officer of Kawata Electricals, has pledged to undertake all electrical works for the building.
The Assembly Member, Muntari Wahab, who represented the Municipal Chief Executive, as well as the Member of Parliament for the constituency, have also pledged support towards the project through the provision of building materials.
The project has attracted contributions from individuals and businesspeople, including Umar Nikessin, who donated 30 bags of cement, while Dr Faisal contributed 50 bags.
Hajia Nafisa also donated five trips of sand, five trips of gravel, 1,000 blocks and 200 bags of cement. The architect responsible for the building’s design, Ing. Abdul Latif Dasana, contributed 10 bags of cement.
Board Chairman of the Zongo Development Fund, Alhaji Salisu Maude, has also expressed support for the initiative, assuring the committee of his commitment to the project.
“We are together on this,” he said.
Headmaster of Azhariya School, Abass Ibrahim, said a committee had been established to oversee the completion of the project and ensure accountability for all contributions received.
He assured parents and other donors that every contribution would be properly accounted for and called on parents, old students and other well-wishers to support the initiative.
He said completing the facility would provide pupils with a more suitable learning environment and help address the challenges associated with the current shift system.
The project committee remains optimistic about completing the building but says it is still soliciting funds and construction materials to advance the work.
Several parents who attended the sod-cutting ceremony also pledged support, with some contributing money and bags of cement, while others promised to assist as construction progresses.
The committee is appealing to individuals, organisations and the wider community to contribute towards bringing the three-storey school complex to completion.
