The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zamfara State has reaffirmed its commitment to the 2027 governorship election, insisting that its candidate, Senator Kabir Garba Marafa, remains firm and undeterred.
The party stated this in a statement issued yesterday by its publicity secretary, Kassim Almustafa Kayatawa, in response to an article by Suleiman Ahmad Tudu, senior special assistant on Media in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
Tudu, in an article titled, “The Candidate Campaigning with a Resignation Letter”, had questioned Marafa’s position on his governorship ambition.
But the NDC described the publication as misleading, alleging that it contained falsehoods and misrepresentation of Marafa’s position.
“We remain firm; no falsehood will deter our dream to salvage Zamfara State,” the party stated.
The NDC said it was necessary to clarify that Marafa’s remarks during an interview with DCL Hausa were not an attempt to campaign with a resignation letter, but a statement of accountability and honest leadership.
According to the party, Marafa acknowledged that the Federal Government and the state government have separate responsibilities and pledged to fulfil his duties as governor while pushing the Federal Government to meet its obligations.
The party explained that Marafa said he would resign only if his efforts to ensure the Federal Government fulfilled its responsibilities failed to produce results.
It accused Tudu of deliberately ignoring the context of the remarks in an attempt to score political points.
“That is the language of a leader with integrity. That is the language of a man who does not believe in deceiving the people with empty promises,” the NDC added.
