Ohale Calls Time On Super Falcons Career After 16 Years

Super Falcons defender Osinachi Ohale has announced her retirement from international football, bringing an end to a 16-year career with Nigeria’s senior women’s national team.

Ohale, 34, confirmed the decision on social media, saying it was a difficult choice after years of representing her country. The experienced centre-back leaves the international stage as one of the most capped and decorated players in the current Super Falcons setup.

During her remarkable stint with the 10-time African champions, Ohale made 86 appearances and won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title four times. She was also part of Nigeria’s squad at four FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments, underlining her longevity and consistency at the highest level.

Her retirement marks the end of an era for the Super Falcons defence. A mainstay at the back for more than a decade and a half, Ohale featured in some of Nigeria’s biggest matches and was known for her experience, leadership and defensive strength.

Announcing her exit on Instagram, Ohale wrote: “After 16 years of wearing the Nigerian jersey, representing my country, and giving everything I had to the beautiful game, I have made the very difficult decision to retire from international football.”

The defender will now concentrate on her club career after stepping away from international duty. Her departure leaves the Super Falcons without a seasoned campaigner as the team continues its transition and rebuilding process.

Ohale’s decision ends a notable international career in which she earned 86 caps, won four WAFCON crowns and represented Nigeria at four World Cups.
