OSHIKUKU-The newly developed Oshikuku Cultural Heritage Centre is expected to open its doors soon, offering accommodation, conferencing, dining and cultural experiences aimed at attracting more visitors and business activities to the town.
The centre was inaugurated in November last year by Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development Evelyn !Nawases-Taeyele, as part of efforts to promote local economic development and tourism in Oshikuku.
According to the Oshikuku Town Council, the facility was funded through the ministry’s Local Economic Development Agency (LEDA) programme.
The centre consists of six accommodation rooms, a swimming pool, a barbecue area, a boardroom that can accommodate 25 people, and a restaurant with a fully equipped kitchen.
The boardroom will also be available for businesses, organisations and individuals to book for meetings, workshops and other events.
The council said the next phase of the project will focus on landscaping to improve the appearance and overall environment of the centre.
The facility is intended to attract more people to Oshikuku and create opportunities for local businesses, while positioning the town as a destination for cultural, tourism and business activities.
The council is also encouraging companies and organisations from Oshikuku and neighbouring towns to make use of the facility for meetings and other activities away from their usual office environment.
A major attraction planned for the centre is an Oshiwambo Uukwambi traditional homestead, which will form part of its cultural tourism offering.
The traditional homestead is expected to host various cultural activities and tours, giving visitors an opportunity to learn more about the traditions, customs and way of life of the Uukwambi people.
Through these activities, the council hopes to promote and preserve local culture and heritage, while creating a space where residents and visitors can experience and appreciate Oshiwambo traditions.
The centre is therefore expected to serve not only as a hospitality facility, but also as a platform for cultural preservation, tourism and local economic development in Oshikuku.
