The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma; President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote; and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, are among prominent Nigerians to be honoured at the Daily Times Nigeria @100 Centenary Awards.
The event is scheduled to be held on September 3, 2026, at the ThisDay Dome, Central Area, Abuja, to recognise individuals and institutions that have contributed to Nigeria’s development in governance, business, security, innovation and public service.
Akume will receive the Daily Times Statesman Award for his decades of public service and contribution to national cohesion, while the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof Mentawe Yilwatda, will receive the Daily Times Political Leadership Award.
Uzodinma will receive the Daily Times Good Governance Award, while Sanwo-Olu will be honoured with the Daily Times Mega City Transformation Award.
Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, is listed for the Daily Times Agricultural Revolution Award for his efforts in food security and mechanised farming.
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, will receive the Daily Times Innovation and Infrastructure Award for his investments in smart governance, security and urban renewal, while Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, will receive the Daily Times People-Centered Governance Award for his ARISE Agenda, which focuses on job creation, rural development and social welfare.
Dangote will receive the Daily Times Industrialist of the Century Award for his contribution to industrialisation and job creation, while the President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, will be honoured with the Daily Times Pan-African Development Award.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, will receive the Daily Times Royal Icon Award for his contribution to cultural renaissance and youth empowerment.
In the security sector, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited will receive the Daily Times Change Maker of the Century Award for its role in protecting Nigeria’s oil and gas assets and promoting stability in the Niger Delta.
Other awardees are drawn from the banking, health, education, media, sports and philanthropy sectors.
Speaking on the significance of the awards, the Chairman of Folio Media Group and Publisher of Daily Times, Fidelis Anosike, said the initiative was designed to celebrate Nigerians whose contributions had made a lasting impact on the country.
“For 100 years, Daily Times has told the Nigerian story. Today we honour those writing the next chapter. These are men and women who chose service over self, and results over rhetoric,” Anosike said.
He added that the centenary celebration was not only about the newspaper’s history but also about recognising individuals and institutions shaping Nigeria’s future.
The event, themed “A Century of Truth, A Future of Impact,” is expected to attract government officials, governors, business leaders, traditional rulers, diplomats and media executives.
The organisers said the ceremony would also feature tributes, documentaries and the unveiling of the Daily Times @100 Commemorative Book, chronicling Nigeria’s journey through the perspective of the newspaper.
