Following the recent ban on Durbar and horse-riding in Kano, the state’s Police Command has reiterated its warning to all residents irrespective of class or institution. The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this to newsmen in Kano on Friday at a press conference.   He said, “It would be recalled that the Kano state government, after due consultations with relevant security stakeholders in the state and in its efforts to preserve public peace and order in the state, recently pronounced a ban on all forms of Durbar and Horse-riding activities throughout the state. Reports indicate apparent breaches of these security directives.  “The Kano State Police Command in conjunction with relevant security agencies in the state hereby reiterate that these executive security directives so issued regarding the ban on Durbar/Horse-riding activities, are still in force and binding on all persons in the state, irrespective of status or position. The threats which necessitated the ban were put to serious checks and are still potent.”  He said following a joint security meeting it was resolved that “any person, institution or organisation that deems it very pertinent to undertake any form of Durbar, and/or horse/animal-riding activity in public place in the state is required to give at least 72 hours prior notice in writing to the Kano state Police Command through the Office of the state Commissioner of Police, to enable necessary security assessment and arrangements for public safety and order.”  He further called on all concerned parties to comply strictly with all lawful security directives and to cooperate with the security agencies.   “I want to assure the good people of Kano that the law enforcement agencies remain resolute, united and committed to enforcing the law and safeguarding public peace and order in the state,” he added.
