NPP blames late arrival of delegates for delay in start of conference

The New Patriotic Party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi is yet to start because delegates are still arriving. This is according to the party’s Acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey.
Speaking at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 3, Mr Buttey said the conference would begin once enough delegates were in the venue.
“We are waiting for the delegates. They are not here. So, if 1/3 of them comes then we start,” he said.
Asked what was holding them up, he said he could not give a specific reason.
“I don’t know. They are there at their various places,” he said.
He was also asked about claims that some candidates were still meeting delegates on the day of the election, and that this may be adding to the delay.
Mr Buttey brushed the suggestion aside saying “It has always been so. This is not new.”
A total of 7,163 delegates are expected to take part in the conference, which will first consider proposed constitutional amendments before moving on to the election of the party’s national officers.
