Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya was proposed as chairperson of the Board of Trustees and head of the presidential campaign, with former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo named as his deputy in the campaign team.
Sifuna said the party intended to have one leader and four deputies to accommodate different regions. He also announced plans to establish offices across all 47 counties by December, with Kwale expected to host the first phase of the rollout on Saturday, October 31.
The headquarters will serve as the party’s national coordination centre and presidential campaign command centre as it builds structures ahead of the next General Election.
The launch, however, was marked by an awkward moment involving Kalonzo, who was heckled by sections of the crowd as he addressed the gathering.
Supporters repeatedly chanted Sifuna’s name after Kalonzo cautioned against declaring the Nairobi senator a presidential candidate before the November 13 delegates’ convention.
Sifuna eventually intervened, asking the crowd to respect the invited leaders and allow Kalonzo to finish his speech.
