Felix Kwakye Ofosu Defends Minerals Commission Over Takeover Of Indigenous Mines

According to a report by TV3 Ghana on October 31, 2026, the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has defended the actions of the Minerals Commission regarding the takeover of indigenous mines, insisting that the commission must be allowed to discharge its lawful responsibilities without intimidation or public attacks.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu maintained that Ghana is not a lawless society where individuals or organisations can disregard established laws and regulations governing the country’s mining sector. He argued that institutions mandated to enforce the law must be respected when carrying out their official duties.

His comments come amid public discussions and concerns surrounding the Minerals Commission’s actions involving the takeover of indigenous mining operations. The issue has attracted attention, particularly regarding the commission’s authority and the treatment of locally owned mining businesses.

The minister cautioned against attempts to discredit the Minerals Commission for performing responsibilities within its legal mandate. According to him, it would be inappropriate for the commission to face condemnation simply because its actions affect the interests of certain individuals or businesses.

He further stressed that the country’s laws must be respected by everyone, regardless of their economic status or position in society. He suggested that disagreements over regulatory decisions should be addressed through the appropriate legal channels rather than through attacks on institutions responsible for enforcing the law.

The minister’s position highlights the government’s defence of regulatory enforcement within Ghana’s mining industry, particularly as authorities continue to address issues surrounding mining operations and compliance with existing laws.

The takeover of indigenous mines remains an important issue in discussions about mining regulation, the protection of local businesses and the enforcement of Ghana’s mining laws.

His comments reinforce the government’s position that the Minerals Commission should be permitted to perform its statutory functions without being vilified for carrying out its lawful duties.
