Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has inaugurated the state All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Election Campaign Council, charging members to unite and mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Aiyedatiwa, who chairs the campaign council, gave the charge on Saturday during the inauguration of the council, directorates and sub-committees at the International Culture and Event Centre, The Dome, Akure.
The governor said unity and coalition-building were essential to electoral success, warning that the APC’s size and political strength would not guarantee victory without internal cohesion.
“As large or as big as we are, if we are not together, it will be difficult to win the election. That is why it’s very, very important that we must remain united,” he said.
Recalling the alliance that led to the formation of the APC in 2014 and its victory over the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015, Aiyedatiwa urged members to learn from the divisions that weakened the opposition party.
He said retaining power was necessary to protect the interests of party members and their communities, urging campaign council members to take the achievements of the Tinubu administration to voters across Ondo State.
The governor listed regular payment of salaries, road and bridge construction, support for educational institutions, graduate training and the provision of equipment for government hospitals and health centres among the achievements of his administration.
He also defended Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of petrol subsidy, saying the resulting savings were being deployed to projects intended to benefit Nigerians.
“The President has made the job easy for us by those reforms,” Aiyedatiwa said, citing the Federal Government’s coastal highway project as an example of Tinubu’s commitment to major infrastructure development.
He also expressed confidence that Tinubu would support efforts to address coastal erosion in Ayetoro, Ilaje Local Government Area, where sea incursion has continued to threaten the community.
Also speaking, Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami urged APC members to intensify grassroots mobilisation to achieve the party’s target of one million votes for Tinubu in Ondo State in 2027.
Adelami said the target could be achieved through house-to-house and street-to-street campaigns, urging women, youths, elders and other groups to participate actively in the mobilisation exercise.
The APC State Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, charged campaign committees to reach every part of the state, engage residents and present the achievements of the Tinubu and Aiyedatiwa administrations to voters.
Babatunde said the Aiyedatiwa administration had completed more than 50 road projects, with over 50 others ongoing. He also cited grants and scholarships for students and the payment of gratuities and pensions as achievements that would feature in the party’s campaign.
“Our campaign is going to be issue-based. We’ll be telling our people what we have done as a government,” he said.
Babatunde commended Aiyedatiwa for strengthening party unity and expressed confidence that the APC would secure victory in the 2027 elections through sustained grassroots mobilisation and a coordinated campaign.
