CHIEF Justice Dr. Mumba Malila has acknowledged receiving an email seeking to challenge the presidential election result.
In a statement, the Judiciary said the email was sent to Malila’s private address by a member of the public and contained documentation labeled “the people’s presidential petition.” The documents seek to challenge the outcome of the presidential election held during the Aug. 13 general elections.
Judiciary Deputy Director of Corporate Communications Kalumba Chisambisha-Slavin said the Judiciary is aware of social media claims that the petition has been formally filed.
She said Malila found the mode of communication “highly irregular.” However, using his administrative powers, he has referred the documents to the Constitutional Court for consideration on the issue of filing.
“The affected parties will hear from that Court in due course,” she said.
