The 28-year-old joined Schalkes reserve side on 4 August, having spent the previous two seasons with the clubs first team. He was part of the Schalke squad that won the German second tier in 2025-26.
Donkor has made three appearances in the Regionalliga West this season, starting two matches and playing 210 minutes without scoring or providing an assist.
The potential move would represent a return to Germanys second tier for the defender, who previously played for Eintracht Braunschweig before moving to Schalke in July 2024. He also spent two seasons at SV Waldhof Mannheim, where he won the Baden Cup three times.
Donkors experience includes spells with Wolfsburg II, Hansa Rostock and Carl Zeiss Jena, while he began his development in Wolfsburgs academy. He is listed as able to use either foot and has a market value of 400,000.
No agreement has been confirmed between Schalke 04 II and Energie Cottbus. Donkor remains under contract with Schalke until 30 June 2027.
