Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing sound equipment worth K7.9 million from a church in Dowa — a place Christians regard as the house of God.
The suspects have been identified as 22-year-old Jazia Grand of Kamkoma Village, Traditional Authority Nthache, and 26-year-old Chimwemwe Jere of Lukwa Village, Traditional Authority Symon in Neno District.
They are accused of breaking into Lumbadzi Assemblies of God Church and stealing two hybrid amplifiers and a cross-over.
Lumbadzi Police Station spokesperson Felix Kwinyani said the incident occurred between the night of August 16 and August 23, 2026.
Kwinyani said police investigations led to the recovery of the stolen equipment, which the church clerk identified as property stolen during the break-in.
The arrests have resulted in an unusual case that can figuratively be described as “stealing from God”, given the church’s significance as a place of worship among Christians.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of breaking into a building and committing a felony therein.
