The Osun State Police Command has arrested four suspects over Monday’s shooting incident at Naira and Kobo in Ikire, in Irewole Local Government area of the State that left two passers-by dead and three Policemen injured.
Ibrahim Zungura, the State Commissioner of Police, stated this on Thursday in Osogbo while briefing journalists on the progress of investigation into the incident.
Zungura said the arrests followed credible intelligence and technical analysis of information gathered after about 30 armed hoodlums allegedly attacked policemen who responded to a distress call at Naira and Kobo area of Ikire.
The Police identified the other arrested suspects as Olalere Taiwo, 21; Olalere Ademola, 26; and Bankole Abiodun, 20. Zungura said one cutlass-like object was recovered from the suspects.

According to him, the hoodlums forcefully snatched an AK-47 rifle from one of the officers.
Zungura said one of the suspects, identified as Ayewo, allegedly used the rifle to shoot sporadically, hitting three policemen and two passers-by. The two civilians later died, while the injured officers were taken to hospital for treatment.
The commissioner said preliminary interrogation showed that the suspects confessed to being political thugs and that their faction was headed by Ayewo, whose other name is unknown.
He said investigation was continuing to apprehend Ayewo and others still at large, assuring that anyone found to have participated in or contributed to the offence would face the full weight of the law.
Adedeji, one of the arrested suspects told journalists that he was collecting money at Naira and Kobo park while another man was collecting money at Obada market as part of union activities.
He said, “I think he didn’t deliver very well. Ayewo said they should go and bring the boy. Ayewo is our head in the park. He was brought by Scorpion and Lanko.”
Adedeji continued: “They matcheted the boy and he went to go and report to the police. When the police came, they said we should not run away from the police. We stayed and they collected gun from the police. He started shooting at the police. Two persons died and some policemen were also hit.”
He further said, “I was asked to tell Ayewo to leave the town. He said Oga ordered that Ayewo should leave the town. The only Oga that I know is Senator Lere Oyewumi.”
