Dr Divine Kabutey Agyemang-Lardey has been elected Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Sege Constituency of the Greater Accra Region after defeating his contender, Prosper Teye Akortia, in the party’s internal elections on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Dr Agyemang-Lardey secured 515 votes against Mr Akortia’s 443, winning the contest by a margin of 72 votes.
In his remarks after the election, the newly elected secretary expressed gratitude to delegates for the confidence they had placed in him and attributed his victory to the grace of God.
He also thanked his campaign team, supporters, friends and family for their contributions throughout the campaign.
Dr Agyemang-Lardey called on members of the constituency to put the contest behind them and work together to strengthen the party’s structures ahead of future electoral challenges.
He stressed that the election was an internal democratic exercise and should not leave lasting divisions among members.
He further acknowledged his opponent, Mr Akortia, and urged supporters of both candidates to embrace reconciliation, mutual respect and cooperation in the interest of the NDC.
Dr Agyemang-Lardey said his leadership would focus on strengthening the constituency secretariat, improving communication and information sharing, and promoting the welfare of branch executives and party members.
During his campaign, he proposed initiatives including a GH¢50,000 revolving seed fund, an opportunities hub and mentorship programmes aimed at creating more opportunities for members.
His election is expected to provide an opportunity to work with other constituency executives and party stakeholders to implement the proposed initiatives.
As he prepares to assume office, Dr Agyemang-Lardey reiterated the need for an inclusive party organisation in which every member feels valued, regardless of the candidate they supported during the elections.
He said the focus should now shift from competition to collective responsibility, urging members to unite behind the newly elected leadership to advance the party’s interests in the Sege Constituency.
